Great American State Fair Kicks Off on Independence Day
On July 4, 2026, President Donald Trump is set to leave the White House to deliver what he’s suggested could be a lengthy address at the Great American State Fair, taking place on the National Mall. This event is part of the “Salute to America,” celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
The National Mall is gearing up to conclude Independence Day celebrations with a bang, although the event was postponed earlier in the day due to a heat wave.
In the afternoon, visitors from across the nation gathered to enjoy demonstrations and watch from various government and military vantage points, including:
- NASA
- United States Coast Guard (USCG)
- US Army, featuring the Golden Knights
- U.S. Navy, including the Leap Frogs and Blue Angels
- United States Air Force, represented by the Thunderbirds
- United States Marine Corps
- Air Force One
According to reports, the fair promises “a breathtaking display of patriotism, live performances, and a monumental fireworks show above the capital.”
The evening program will kick off at 5 p.m. ET, featuring performances by the Joint Forces Orchestra and various speakers. The official Salute to America segment is expected to start at 7 p.m.
A fireworks display is scheduled from 9:45 to 10:30 p.m., though President Trump has mentioned his remarks might extend despite the heat warnings.
Typically, the fair wraps up between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. on other days, but this Saturday’s event will extend until midnight.
Trump expressed his excitement on social media, noting, “Despite the not-so-hot weather forecast, the crowd in Washington, D.C., is incredible! The love for our country has never been stronger.” He praised the air show and mentioned he would speak at the Lincoln Memorial around 10 p.m.
He also commented on the spacious reflecting pool, which had recently been renovated, stating it looks great, even after some vandalism. He promised to address the damage swiftly following the holiday weekend.
He concluded with a well-wishing note for Independence Day, affirming, “Our country is stronger than ever!”
For those unable to attend, event organizers have encouraged viewers to watch the festivities live from home.
