Former President Trump is scheduled to hold a rally in Aurora, Colorado, weeks after his attack on the city and Colorado governor.

“Under border czar Harris, Venezuelan gangs have taken over an entire apartment building in Aurora, Colorado,” President Trump said at the rally.

The city of Aurora has become a flashpoint in the immigration debate following a conspiracy theory that Venezuelan gang members have “taken over” an apartment in the city. The conspiracy theory emerged after a video emerged showing men carrying automatic weapons in an apartment complex. Aurora police previously said several gang members were arrested near a different apartment complex than the one where the video was shot, but also denied there was a takeover.
Polis defended Aurora in an interview on CBS News' “Face the Nation” a day after Trump's comments at the rally.
“What many Americans should know is that Aurora Island has a population of over 400,000 people. It's the third largest city in Colorado. Violent crime has decreased for the second year in a row. . Car thefts are down for the second year in a row. It's a great city. I'm always there. It's a really great, diverse city, and it's probably growing rapidly over the next 10 or 20 years. “We'll be the number one or number two city in Colorado in 2020,” Polis said. “We’re safer than we were before.”
