Trump to hold rally in Aurora, Colorado weeks after attacks on city, governor

Former President Trump is scheduled to hold a rally in Aurora, Colorado, weeks after his attack on the city and Colorado governor.

The rally will be held this Friday in a Denver suburb. According to a press release on Monday From the Trump camp. The announcement also said the city had become “a 'war zone' due to the influx of violent Venezuelan prison gang members from Torren de Aragua.”

“Since December 2022, approximately 43,000 migrants have flooded into neighboring Denver, and many of these migrants are heading to Aurora, causing chaos and fear,” the release continued. “Local families are forced to flee their homes as members of Torren de Aragua terrorize apartment complexes with guns, theft, and a drug epidemic. Kamala Harris' open borders policy It has turned what was once a safe community into a nightmare for law-abiding citizens.”

President Trump has a history of talking about the Northern Lights. During last month's presidential debate between President Trump and Vice President Harris, the former president brought up conspiracy theories about immigrant gangs in the city. In comments at a rally last month, President Trump criticized Democratic Gov. Jared Polis of Aurora and Colorado.

“Under border czar Harris, Venezuelan gangs have taken over an entire apartment building in Aurora, Colorado,” President Trump said at the rally.

Trump added of Polis: “The governor of Colorado is scared.” “He's a liberal governor. He doesn't know what to do. The guy's so scared of them that you probably can't blame him.”

The city of Aurora has become a flashpoint in the immigration debate following a conspiracy theory that Venezuelan gang members have “taken over” an apartment in the city. The conspiracy theory emerged after a video emerged showing men carrying automatic weapons in an apartment complex. Aurora police previously said several gang members were arrested near a different apartment complex than the one where the video was shot, but also denied there was a takeover.

Polis defended Aurora in an interview on CBS News' “Face the Nation” a day after Trump's comments at the rally.

“What many Americans should know is that Aurora Island has a population of over 400,000 people. It's the third largest city in Colorado. Violent crime has decreased for the second year in a row. . Car thefts are down for the second year in a row. It's a great city. I'm always there. It's a really great, diverse city, and it's probably growing rapidly over the next 10 or 20 years. “We'll be the number one or number two city in Colorado in 2020,” Polis said. “We’re safer than we were before.”

The Hill reached out to the Harris campaign and Aurora's communications and marketing department.

In an emailed statement to The Hill, Polis said Coloradans are “united in our love for our state, a pioneer in personal freedom, a vibrant economy, and world-class outdoor recreational opportunities.” I'm proud to be one.”

“If he came to Aurora, he would find a great city where crime has declined rapidly for two years in a row and is filled with hard-working people from diverse backgrounds and small businesses that are moving Colorado's economy forward. “I'm confident,” Polis continued. . “As Coloradans, we are proud of Aurora, proud of Colorado, and proud of the United States of America.”
