Trump to Sign Executive Order Mandating Voter I.D. for Elections

Trump Promises Action on Voter ID and Elections

On Saturday, former President Donald Trump announced that he intends to take significant steps regarding voter ID and election regulations across the United States.

In a post on the True Society, he stated, “Voter ID must be part of every vote. There are no exceptions! I will make an executive order for that!!! Also, aside from very sick individuals and distant troops, there will be no mail-in voting. Only paper ballots should be used!!!”

The president has consistently voiced concerns about election integrity. Back in December 2022, he suggested to Breitbart News that Republicans ought to compete with Democrats regarding mail-in voting and vote harvesting. He acknowledged that Republicans had to adapt to the current system until they regained control to implement changes.

He remarked, “This system is not just broken; it’s corrupt. Mail-in voting is always corrupt. When you go to vote in person, you need your ID, and that’s a legal process. Mail-in voting undermines this.” Trump emphasized that Democrats should be motivated to address this corruption, pointing out that the current election system does not serve their interests either. However, he added that it is up to Republicans to tackle these issues, even if it’s challenging.

Additionally, Fox News reported on Sunday that Trump proposed a broader executive order requiring voter IDs, but Judge Colleen Coller Cotery of the District of Columbia noted that certain sections of this proposal were flawed.

The judge commented, “According to the distribution of powers, Congress is currently reviewing laws that could affect many aspects the president wishes to order. The president cannot bypass the deliberative process through an executive order.”

In response, Delaware Democrat Sarah McBride criticized Trump, labeling his stance as an “all-out assault on American democracy.”
