President Trump signed the executive order on Thursday, with the aim of taking the first step to dismantle the Department of Education.
Trump has long said he hopes to abolish the sector and “return to the state” education policy. He is scheduled to sign the order at 4pm at the White House, adjacent to a conservative education influencer and a Republican governor.
The move is intended to reduce the influence and authority of the department rather than completely eliminate it.
