President Donald Trump’s administration is preparing to further close the illegal intersection from Mexico by setting up a buoy barrier in the Rio Grande.

In 2023, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) under former President Joe Biden, set up state buoy barriers to curb the country’s illegal immigration crisis, particularly in the trafficked Eagle Pass area. The interconnected inflatable sphere buoy was four feet wide and served as a floating fence that spins when caught, preventing illegal aliens from climbing.
This was the first time such deterrents have been deployed along the US-Mexico border, and the move faced legal challenges from the Biden Administration Department. The lawsuit alleges that Texas violated federal law by failing to obtain permission to install the barrier. He also claimed that the buoys had created both environmental and safety concerns.
Trump’s DOJ is expected to file a lawsuit against the buoy wall against Texas.
According to Washington Examiner, the first Trump administration’s border patrol developed the idea of first installing floating barriers. But with government changes, it never did.
After former Border Patrol agent Mike Banks was hired as Texas border emperor, the state independently deployed plans. The bank is currently the chief of the Border Patrol.
Washington examiners reported that Texas wanted to present the Trump administration with a 1,000-foot barrier.
Serene Rodriguez of the Texas Public Policy Foundation told the news outlet that the implementation of the state’s buoy wall has proven effective in blocking illegal crossings.
“Texas has been left poorly for itself, finding innovative solutions to secure borders and assisting law enforcement,” Rodriguez said. “The buoy barrier is a necessary measure that proves that further action can be taken, and I’m happy to see this measure that the Trump administration has just taken.”
Border Emperor Tom Homan told a Washington examiner that floating walls were “a concept of a large boundary barrier.”
