Trump to Speak with Putin this Week After Ukraine Agrees to Ceasefire

President Donald Trump said he hopes to speak to Russian President Vladimir Putin this week as Ukraine has accepted a potential ceasefire deal negotiated by the United States.

Trump spoke to reporters about the Ukrainian agreement on a potential ceasefire while the president checked out Elon Musk and Teslas at the White House, shortly after it broke.

“What's very important is, I said, Ukraine: Certain Fire… I only agreed a while ago. Now we have to go to Russia, and hopefully, Putin will agree with that as well, and we can get this show on the road.” Trump said he was sandwiched between Musk and his son, X.

Trump emphasized that “we want to get through that war” after 2,000-4,000 Ukrainians and Russian soldiers were killed the week they were given, and civilians were “slayed elsewhere.”

“I think it's a big difference from the last visit I saw in the oval office. It's a complete ceasefire. Ukraine agrees and hopefully Russia will agree with it,” Trump said. “We're going to meet them today and later tomorrow. Hopefully we can wipe out the deal.”

Trump also said he hopes to speak to Putin soon this week.

“I'll talk to Vladimir Putin,” he told reporters. “Look… it takes two for the tango. As they say, hopefully, he agrees. I think it's really 75%. The rest of it's documented it and negotiates the land location and so on, as you know.”

When asked if he would talk to Putin “this week,” Trump replied, “I think so.”

In a joint statement, the State Department and the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said “After a meeting between Ukrainian officials, Secretary Marco Rubio and national security adviser Mike Waltz, “Ukraine has expressed its preparation for accepting the US proposal to enact an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire.”
