Donald Trump is set to speak with Vladimir Putin on Monday. He emphasized the need to put an end to the “blood bath” that has resulted in over 5,000 casualties among Russian and Ukrainian soldiers weekly.

“I will be on the phone to Russian President Vladimir Putin at 10am on Monday to stop this bloodbath. After that, I will speak with President Zelensky of Ukraine and other NATO members. Hopefully, it will be a productive day and lead to a ceasefire in this violent war that should never have occurred. God bless us all!”

This announcement follows Trump’s earlier comments to reporters about an in-person meeting with Putin.

Trump mentioned that he aims to meet with Putin soon after the Russian leader opted out of peace talks in Turkey regarding Ukraine. “I think it’s time for us to do that,” he said during his recent trip to the Middle East.

After boarding Air Force 1, Trump remarked he might reach out to Putin immediately to discuss the situation, admitting, “He and I will meet up and I don’t know if we’ll find a solution, but at least we’ll have clarity. And if not, it will certainly be interesting.”
