Trump Reportedly Blocks Israeli Plan to Kill Iran’s Leader
President Donald Trump allegedly intervened to stop an Israeli initiative aimed at assassinating Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. A senior official in the Trump administration commented, “Did the Iranians still kill Americans? No. We won’t even talk about chasing political leadership until they do that,” according to a report.
Two unnamed Trump administration members relayed that there had been ongoing discussions with the Israeli government following an attack on Iran to disrupt the Islamic State’s nuclear efforts.
U.S. officials indicated to reporters that Israel was poised to eliminate Khamenei, but Trump’s disapproval quashed the plan. It’s unclear whether Trump himself communicated this directly, although he often spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Reports have surfaced about significant Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian leadership, military assets, nuclear facilities, and refineries.
In retaliation, Iran launched missiles at Tel Aviv shortly after. The following day, the Islamic State attacked an Arab town near Haifa.
Trump responded to the escalating tensions through a post on his social media platform, emphasizing that he had given Iran a chance to negotiate. “I told them in the strongest terms, ‘I just do it,’ but despite my efforts, they couldn’t follow through.”
He elaborated that the U.S. possesses unparalleled military capabilities and that Israel is well-equipped for any future confrontations, implying a deeper level of readiness than Iran anticipated. “Certain Iranian factions thought they knew what to expect, but they were mistaken,” Trump said, adding, “Iran has to reach an agreement before it’s too late.”
Reflecting on previous interactions with Iran, Trump noted he had given them a strict timeline to negotiate, which he claims they failed to meet. He expressed hope for a new opportunity for peace.
Additionally, following an urgent discussion with President Putin, Trump expressed a desire for an end to the conflict between Israel and Iran, suggesting that negotiation would be beneficial. “Iran and Israel should engage in trade discussions,” he remarked.
