Trump Responds to U.S. Service Member Deaths and Military Operations Against Iran
On Sunday, President Donald Trump expressed sorrow over the loss of three U.S. service members in recent days, stating that the U.S. has carried out significant strikes against Iran’s military. This announcement came after U.S. Central Command reported successful attacks over nine consecutive nights, focusing on Iran’s military infrastructure and its capacity to target commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump remarked, “We hit them hard again tonight, and we did it in honor of three — maybe three, not two — great patriots,” as he returned to Washington following the World Cup finals. He noted that Iran has faced “very severe damage,” leading to substantial losses in their military capabilities. “They lost almost everything militarily,” he added, suggesting that Iran now only has limited resources left, like some missiles and drones.
He emphasized U.S. control over the Strait, stating, “They control nothing,” and seemed to hint at uncertain future developments. When questioned about the American deaths, Trump said the administration felt “very sick” and conveyed that the fallen soldiers fought to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
“What we’re doing now is preventing them from ever having nuclear missiles,” he continued. His comments followed news that two service members were killed on Friday when Iranian missiles and drones targeted U.S. and coalition forces defending positions in Jordan.
Central Command indicated that four additional service members were injured but later released, while another soldier lost their life in a controlled explosion in northern Iraq. This incident now raises the total U.S. military deaths in this conflict to 17. Secretary of the Army Pete Hegseth honored the soldiers as heroes who had given their lives to protect fellow military members and safeguard the U.S. from Iranian threats.
The Central Command also confirmed that the U.S. had completed its ninth consecutive night of strikes against Iran, as part of a broader strategy to weaken Iran’s military capabilities. This operation involved targeting various military sites, including command centers, air defenses, and missile launch facilities, aimed at reducing Iran’s threat to maritime traffic.
Earlier attacks had focused on Iran’s missile and drone infrastructure, and U.S. operations are reportedly ongoing, with CENTCOM stating, “The U.S. military is pursuing Iran’s responsibility in accordance with the instructions of the commander in chief.” It added that U.S. forces remain vigilant and prepared.
The U.S. naval blockade against Iran continues, with recent actions resulting in rerouting several commercial vessels to maintain order in the Strait of Hormuz. The Trump administration emphasized that military operations are part of a strategy to deter threats to international shipping while dismantling Iran’s attack capabilities.
In response, Iranian media reported multiple explosions in various regions, including the significant cities of Tabriz and Bandar Mahshar, in the wake of American strikes. Meanwhile, Iran persists in launching attacks against U.S. forces and allies in the region, with Kuwait also facing threats from Iranian drones.
The ongoing military efforts are portrayed as essential to ensure that Iran cannot endanger U.S. forces, disrupt commercial shipping, or advance nuclear weapons capabilities. “We control the Straits,” Trump affirmed, reiterating a strong stance on military strength in the region.
