Trump: Ukraine and Russia reach an 'energy truce'

Trump Announces Energy Ceasefire Between Russia and Ukraine

President Donald Trump shared that Russia and Ukraine have reached an “ENERGY CEASEFIRE.” He made this announcement via a post on Truth Social early on Sunday.

“Effective immediately, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the War between Russia and Ukraine. Both parties have agreed. Do not break it!” he stated.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reacted to Trump’s announcement, expressing approval but also pointed out that Russia has continued its drone attacks on Ukraine throughout the day.

“There have been glide bomb strikes and strikes on our energy infrastructure too,” Zelensky reported. “A power plant in Kharkiv was attacked this evening.”

“We are awaiting clear details of the dialogue between America and Russia – and we expect Putin to follow through on what President Trump said,” he added.

As of Sunday, Moscow had not commented on this announcement.

Trump’s declaration came after he spoke to reporters at Joint Base Andrews on Saturday night. During that press event, he suggested that Zelensky should hold elections.

“Well, I think he should have an election. And he could have settled this thing many times,” Trump remarked, stating that Zelensky had opportunities to negotiate an end to the conflict. “President Zelensky could have solved this war or he could have made a deal many times.”

“I think that Russia would like to make a deal,” he continued, expressing concerns over Zelensky’s reluctance to reach an agreement.

Earlier on Saturday, outside the White House, Trump was critical of Zelensky’s approach during the war and communicated a message to the Ukrainian populace.

“He could have settled it many times and he chose not to. We said you could do whatever you want to Russia, don’t hit the refineries, because that’s a world problem that’s caused. And he wants to make problems for the world,” Trump explained. “And what does he do? He goes and hits the diesel fuel.”

“I suggest they get a new leader who can make a deal,” he advised the Ukrainians.
