Former President Trump has called on members of the National Rifle Association (NRA) to “rebel and vote for him” in the 2024 election after accepting support from gun rights groups.
President Trump pledged to thousands of attendees at the NRA’s convention in Dallas that he would “stand strong for your rights and freedoms,” and that the Second Amendment would be “under siege” during President Biden’s term. “It’s there,” he claimed.
The presumptive Republican candidate said gun owners may not normally vote, but it’s “important” to find out who owns them in November.
“We’re going to blow them away on a level that no one’s ever seen before,” he said Saturday, drawing laughs from the audience. “So, I think you’re a rebellious bunch, but let’s vote rebelliously this time.”
“We’ve got to get all our friends and all the gun owners together. If you’re going to vote, you’ve got to vote. Nobody can beat us,” he added, before thanking NRA officials for their support.
In his ninth address to the NRA, President Trump said gun owners’ rights would “absolutely” be on the 2024 ballot, adding that if Biden is re-elected, his administration will “100 percent support all of you.” I’m coming to get his gun.” The former president has been criticized by Biden for his past comments on school shootings.
Ahead of the convention, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) posted a sign near the NRA venue condemning President Trump’s comments on gun violence and reform. The former president made similar comments to Pennsylvania’s NRA commissioner earlier this year, vowing to strengthen protections for gun owners if elected in November.
“With me here at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, I promise you that no one will ever lay a finger on your firearm, just like I did for four years when I was president,” he said at the time.
After praising Mark Robinson, North Carolina’s lieutenant governor who is running for governor, President Trump directed his anger at independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
“He’s a radical leftist,” Trump said. “Don’t think about it. Don’t waste your vote.”
“We need a conservative guy with common sense. This guy is a radical leftist who destroyed New York,” he added.
Both candidates are scheduled to attend the upcoming Libertarian Party Convention.Kennedy challenged Trump to a debate when both men attended the party’s convention in Washington, D.C.
“RFK Jr. calls you a terrorist group,” he said of Kennedy. “He’s calling you a terrorist group. You can’t vote for him.”
