Trump Criticizes Schumer Amid Government Shutdown

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump expressed strong disapproval of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats, accusing them of “holding the entire federal government hostage” during the ongoing government shutdown. He stated emphatically, “We will not be coerced by this insane plot of theirs.”

While addressing reporters during a lunch in the White House Rose Garden, Trump insisted that Schumer and his colleagues need to approve a clean, bipartisan continuing resolution to reopen the government immediately. “The government must reopen now,” he declared.

Trump characterized Schumer as an obstructionist, claiming that his actions stem from the Democrats’ poor polling and performance. He described Schumer as being “in deep trouble,” adding, “He’s losing in every poll.”

As the shutdown stretches into its 21st day, Trump labeled it “the Schumer shutdown” or “the Democratic shutdown,” letting it be clear that he’s ready to place the blame squarely on the Democrats.

During his remarks, Trump also referred to Russell Vought, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, as “Darth Vader,” suggesting that while others view him negatively, he is actually a “great guy” advancing the Republican agenda by cutting Democratic priorities.

Trump further stated, “A lot of the things they wanted are things we don’t want. They’re very bad for our country, and we’re eliminating them.” He called for Democrats to “stop the madness and take back our country,” urging them to think logically about their actions.

Concluding his remarks, Trump stressed the importance of securing a Republican win in the upcoming midterm elections, pointing to the rise of Democratic socialist candidates as a concerning trend. “We’re going to have a communist mayor in New York,” he warned.
