Trump Urges Senate Republicans to Confirm Candidates Before August Break

President Donald Trump is emphasizing the need for Senate Republicans to remain in session and confirm their candidates before the annual August recess. This call came through a post where he discussed the importance of fulfilling their duties prior to the month-long break.

In his message, Trump voiced his concerns about the current political climate, suggesting that it’s vital for the Senate to stay focused on the executive calendar. “The Senate must take a break and take a break until the entire executive calendar is clear!” he declared, insisting that Republicans have a critical role in safeguarding the nation from what he termed “the left of the madman.”

“We must save our country from the left of the madman. For the health and safety of America, Republicans must do your job and check all candidates. They should not be forced to wait,” he stated.

Among the more than 1,300 nominations in the pipeline, over 160 candidates have already passed committee scrutiny and are ready for votes on the Senate floor. This confirmation process is set to occur just before the Senate goes on recess, which starts on August 4 and lasts until September 1.

Continuing to press the issue, Trump publicly urged Senate Majority Leader John Thune to cancel the August break to prioritize candidate confirmations, suggesting that “Thune should cancel August’s boredom… my incredible candidate should be confirmed.” Thune indicated he is open to considering this proposal.

“We’re thinking about it. We want to get a lot of nominations through the pipeline,” Thune said.

Before Trump’s post, Thune remarked that there was growing interest at the Senate GOP meeting regarding potential changes to rules aimed at expediting the confirmation process.

“I am certainly interested in seeing options that could break logjams and encourage candidate consideration,” he noted.
