Trump Urges UK to Focus on Oil Production Instead of Wind Turbines

Trump Urges UK to Increase Oil Drilling

In a recent statement, US President Donald Trump encouraged the UK to focus more on drilling for oil instead of investing in wind energy. This comes just weeks after a trade agreement between the US and the UK was finalized.

On his social media platform, Trump expressed, “Our negotiation agreement with the UK is working well for everyone.” He further suggested that the UK should modernize its drilling efforts in the North Sea rather than pursuing windmills to help decrease energy costs.

Under Trump’s administration, there has been a noticeable shift back to fossil fuels, marking energy policy as a top priority for his government since he took office. In contrast, the UK aims to establish itself as a leader in clean energy and is moving towards renewable sources.

“There remains a century of drilling that was drilled by Aberdeen as a hub,” Trump commented, referencing the oil and gas industry in Northeast Scotland, home to his golf resort. He pointed out that outdated tax structures hinder drilling while he believes that revitalizing the sector could significantly lower energy costs.

On May 8, the US and the UK announced they had successfully reached a trade agreement, marking a significant step as it is the first deal made since Trump eliminated global tariffs.

While UK luxury vehicles will benefit from reduced tariffs in the US, the existing 10% tariff on British goods will remain unchanged.
