The verdict in former President Donald Trump’s business records trial in Manhattan is “the culmination of a legal process bent to the political will of those involved,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said in a statement Thursday after a Manhattan jury found Trump guilty on all 34 charges.
“Today’s verdict is the culmination of a legal process bent to the political will of those involved: left-wing prosecutors, a partisan judge and a jury that reflects one of the most liberal places in America — all in an effort to ‘get’ Donald Trump,” DeSantis said in a statement.
“The very fact that this case, involving alleged misdemeanor business records violations from nearly a decade ago, was even filed is evidence of the political corruption of the justice system in a place like New York City,” he said, blasting the left-leaning District Attorney, Alvin Bragg.
“This is especially true given that this same District Attorney routinely condones criminal activity that endangers law-abiding citizens within his jurisdiction,” the governor continued, noting that the lawsuit would never have been filed if the defendant was anyone other than Trump.
“They say no one is above the law, but it’s also true that no one is above the law. This lawsuit would not have been filed, the judge would not have decided in the same way, and the jury would not have convicted him if the defendant had not been Donald Trump,” he said, adding that “in America, the rule of law should be applied dispassionately and fairly, not subject to the political agenda of rigged courts.”
