Trump Voters Overwhelmingly Back Medicare Negotiations and Medicaid Safeguards, Survey Reveals!

Most Trump voters want Medicare negotiations protected, Medicaid preserved: Survey

A recent poll indicates that most voters, including those who supported President Trump, believe it’s crucial for the government to engage in negotiations with pharmaceutical firms on drug prices, favoring reduced prices over cuts to Medicaid.

As per the surveys, 88% of voters surveyed by Fabrizio Ward and sponsored by Arnold Ventures stated that it was either somewhat or very important for the government to negotiate with drug companies. Most respondents view this issue as significant, with merely 4% saying it is “not that important.”

In various voter groups, 86% of Trump supporters felt it was quite or very important. 92% of voters who supported former Vice President Kamala Harris shared this sentiment, as did 87% of swing voters.

Approximately the same proportion of voters indicated it was necessary for Trump to defend Medicare drug price negotiations legally, which includes 86% of Trump voters, 87% of Harris voters, and 83% of swing voters.

The survey revealed substantial resistance to cuts in Medicaid, with 78% of participants expressing a preference for paying tax cuts that would help lower drug prices, while only 10% opted for Medicaid reductions.

“Drug prices are excessively high. This issue transcends party lines. Voters across the political spectrum agree on this point,” stated Mark E. Miller, vice president of health care at Arnold Ventures.

“Congress and the administration need to pursue further measures to enhance Medicare negotiations, lower costs, aid consumers, and yield significant savings for American citizens,” he added.

The poll conducted interviews with 1,000 voters in a targeted congressional district, characterized as 18 districts labeled as “toss-ups” by Cook Political Reports as of March 18.

The majority of voters in these swing districts expressed a preference for tax cuts, government negotiations with drug manufacturers, and reduced drug costs over Trump’s proposals to safeguard Medicare negotiations.

Upon their return from break next week, House Republicans must address how to achieve a $1.5 trillion budget cut to align with Trump’s policy agenda, including $880 million aimed at changes in Medicaid. Twelve Republican representatives from the Swing District are advancing their stance against legislation that would lead to Medicaid cuts.

Fabrizio Ward conducted interviews with 1,000 registered voters nationwide from March 19-24, along with another 1,000 voters from eligible districts. The survey’s results included a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
