US military mission in Iraq to end by 2026
By the end of 2026, the U.S. military will end its current mission against the ISIS militant group in Iraq and move into a new phase, likely with a significant withdrawal of U.S. troops from the country, U.S. officials said. However, they added that the US government intends to maintain military presence in the country to continue the global fight against terrorism, declining to provide details on what is expected.

House Democrats demand removal of provisions targeting LGBTQ service members from NDAA
More than 160 House Democrats on Friday voted to remove provisions regarding LGBTQ service members and their dependents from Congress' annual bill, saying the Republican-backed amendment discriminates against LGBTQ people and threatens military readiness and retention. They called for it to be removed from the Defense Policy Bill. In June, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) with the following amendments:

Israel announces attack on Hezbollah headquarters in downtown Beirut
Israel announced Friday that it had attacked Hezbollah's central headquarters in Beirut, with media reports saying a massive explosion and plumes of orange and black smoke rose above the horizon. The attack came shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the United Nations General Assembly and said Israel “has the right to eliminate and return” to the Hezbollah threat on its northern border.
