Trump warns of DC takeover after DOGE's 'Big Balls' was violently attacked while protecting a young woman

According to police data, Washington, DC experienced a notable drop in violent crime in 2024, which marks a continuous improvement for the year. Mayor Muriel Bowser, a Democrat, made a significant point of this positive trend in a letter to the “DC Safe and Beautiful Task Force” in April addressed to President Donald Trump.

This ongoing trend invites a comparison to 2023, a year that saw a staggering 39% rise in violent crime, which included the highest number of murders recorded since 1997. Despite city officials’ reassurances, DC still holds a reputation as one of America’s most dangerous cities, indicating that there’s much work to be done.

Recently, Trump highlighted the need for increased safety in DC, in the wake of a brutal attack on a former employee, an event that seems to have underscored his frustrations. He shared a graphic image of a man, Edward Coristine, a former government efficiency employee, who was viciously assaulted while intervening in a carjacking attempt.

Reportedly, a group of about 12 young men attempted to attack a woman in a vehicle at night. Coristine, alongside his colleagues, witnessed the unfolding incident, rushed to protect her, and ended up sustaining serious injuries, including a concussion.

A friend of Coristine mentioned that he stepped in to shield a woman during an attempted carjacking near Dupont Circle. The police stated that the suspects approached their victim on Swan Street Northwest and demanded her vehicle while physically assaulting Coristine.

Following the incident, two teenagers, aged 15, from Hyattsville, Maryland, were arrested and charged with unarmed carjacking. Coristine has been hailed as a hero for putting himself in harm’s way to protect others, earning a reputation that underscores his nickname.

Senator Marjorie Taylor Greene remarked on the situation, calling Coristine a hero for not only his professional contributions to combat government inefficiency but for risking his safety in service to others.

Trump has expressed concerns about rampant crime in Washington, attributing some of the blame to local teenagers and gangs. He’s suggested that juveniles involved in such crimes should be prosecuted as adults starting at age 14.

The discussion around crime in DC has led to comments from US attorneys regarding the need for swift action to combat rising criminal activity. Trump has reiterated his belief that unless substantial improvements are made soon, the federal government may need to take over local governance.

This federal takeover notion might require changes in existing laws, like the Home Rules Act, which allows local residents to elect their mayor and council.

Trump has previously stated that overseeing DC would not be a difficult task, affirming the necessity for it to be run efficiently and beautifully. During a recent press conference, he reiterated the importance of addressing the violence in the city and hinted at action that may necessitate federal involvement if conditions do not improve.
