Trump’s Legal Action Over Border Wall Materials

President Donald Trump has announced that Attorney General Pam Bondy is taking legal action against companies that sold surplus materials intended for the border wall during his administration.

The lawsuit raises significant concerns about accountability and oversight regarding federal infrastructure projects under former President Joe Biden. It focuses on alleged mismanagement and inappropriate sale of government-acquired resources.

In December 2024, it was reported that the Biden administration auctioned off unused border wall materials, which were initially purchased during Trump’s presidency, for a mere $5 through the Govplanet Online Marketplace.

These materials were meant for wall construction but remained unused after Biden halted the project with an executive order.

During a recent visit to the Kennedy Center, Trump responded to questions about the southern border wall. A reporter from U.S. Customs and Border Protection inquired if he intended to finish the project. Trump criticized the Biden administration’s actions, claiming that if the materials hadn’t been sold, the wall could have been completed in less than a month.

“Biden sold it for pennies on the dollar, three cents on the dollar and four cents on the dollar,” Trump lamented. “They sold it.”

He remarked that the materials’ auction was the first moment he realized the other side actually desired border control, adding, “They stole a wall from us. That wall is very expensive to build, and we had it for hundreds of miles.”

Biden’s Executive Order stated, “The United States has the right and duty to secure borders and protect people from threats, but building a massive wall across the entire southern border is not a serious policy solution.”

The auctioned wall materials, sold under Biden in 2023, were valued between $260 million and $350 million and included numerous steel panels and large quantities of concrete.

A federal judge had previously stepped in to prevent Attorney General Ken Paxton (R-Texas) from allowing Biden to sell these materials last December. In addition, Lt. Col. Dan Patrick (D-Texas) expressed intentions to donate them to the Trump administration last year to procure border wall materials that were auctioned off by the Biden administration.

Interestingly, the state did not engage in purchasing these materials that eventually went up for auction.

Recently, after reclaiming the sold section of the wall, Biden was quoted saying, “We’re now retrieving the wall… this is expensive… And Biden sold it at a loss… We managed to finish the rest of the wall in about four weeks.”

The company that managed the auction, Govplanet, is known for handling public sector and government surplus. They stated that they had reached an agreement with the Trump administration regarding the return of materials previously labeled as surplus, supplied through existing government contracts.

“The government has come to an agreement in cooperation with the border emperor’s office to return materials for the border wall that were previously considered surplus,” the company announced.

Officials from Govplanet also highlighted their efforts to collaborate with the Trump administration “at a cost” to recover these materials, aiming to safeguard the millions of dollars already invested by U.S. taxpayers in the border wall initiative.

“We are promoting the transfer of these materials to support the administration’s border protection plan,” they noted. “We value our long-standing partnership with the U.S. government and look forward to continuing to support federal agencies.”
