Trump’s Approval Rating Hits a New Low

A recent poll shows that President Trump’s approval rating is at its lowest point during his second term. The study, revealed on Monday, was conducted by CNN/SSRS.

In late October, the poll indicated that only 37% of those surveyed approved of the president’s performance, while a striking 63% disapproved. This represents a notable shift from earlier polling; in July, Trump’s approval was at 42% and disapproval at 58%. Back in April, those numbers were 41% approved and 59% disapproved, and in March, it was 45% approved vs. 54% disapproved.

Looking back even further, in mid-February, right at the beginning of his second term, Trump had a 47% approval rating with a disapproval rating of 52%. The current numbers are nearing his all-time low of 34%, recorded in January 2021 after the U.S. Capitol was stormed. That was quite a drop from 42% just three months prior.

The latest data reveals that his support is faltering particularly among younger Americans and older demographics, as well as among people of color and those with lower incomes.

Specifically, among Americans aged 18 to 34, Trump’s approval has plummeted by 12 points to 29%. For those aged 35 to 49, it has dropped 14 points to 35%. Among individuals aged 65 and older, the approval rating has also fallen by 14 points to 39%.

Interestingly, the approval rating has remained somewhat steady among the 50 to 64 age group at 46%, just a one-point drop since February.

For people of color, the approval rating has decreased sharply by 14 points to 22%, while the decline among white Americans was less drastic, dropping 9 points to 46%. Those earning less than $50,000 annually are increasingly unhappy with Trump, as his approval in this group fell from 45% in February to just 31% now. Conversely, those making above $50,000 saw a slight decline from 49% to 41%.

Across the political landscape, independents have shown the largest decrease in support, now only 28% approve of the president, down from 43% in February. In contrast, the Republican Party’s approval rating has only slipped 4 points to 84%. For Democrats, approval dropped from 11% to a mere 3%.

The survey was conducted from October 27 to 30, with responses from 1,245 participants. The margin of error for this poll is 3.1 percentage points.
