A recent poll indicates that President Trump’s approval rating has climbed five points over the last month.
The latest research from the Associated Press/NORC Research Center, released on Wednesday, shows that 45% of Americans surveyed approved of Trump’s performance in January.
Notably, there was a bump in approval regarding the economy, with 43% of respondents offering positive feedback—up from 38% last month. However, about 60% of American adults still perceive the economy as struggling.
Another Gallup survey out this week reported Trump’s approval rate at 40%, which is three points higher than the previous month.
On the foreign policy front, Gallup found that Trump’s handling of this issue is at 39%, marking a new low in his second term. The approval for his economic agenda has dropped to around 37%.
In the realm of crime, approximately 53% of Americans expressed approval regarding Trump’s approach.
Overall, about two-thirds of respondents identified crime as a significant problem nationwide, with around 80% considering it a major issue in urban areas. Interestingly, only about five Americans reported crime as a major concern in rural locations or small towns.
More than half, specifically 55%, of Americans believe it’s acceptable for the U.S. military and National Guard to assist local law enforcement in major cities. About a third, meanwhile, support the idea of federal control over police departments in large cities.
A strong majority of GOP voters—82%—are in favor of federal assistance to local police through the National Guard or military. Polls suggest that half of Republicans, about 51%, would find it acceptable for the federal government to take over a city’s police department.
Conversely, most Democratic respondents opposed the deployment of National Guard troops to assist local law enforcement and were against the federalization of police departments.
The AP-NORC poll surveyed 1,182 adults from August 21 to 25, with a margin of error of 3.8 percentage points.
