Democratic strategist and CNN contributor Julie Roginsky spoke Friday on CNN's “Newsroom” about President-elect Donald Trump and industry leaders including X Company's Elon Musk and Meta Company's Mark Zuckerberg. He argued that the talks were what happens “when authoritarians come in.”
Host Jim Acosta said, “Elon Musk isn't the only tech executive to visit Mar-a-Lago lately. Apparently, Mark Zuckerberg had dinner there on Wednesday. What do you mean? It seems like a lot of big tech CEOs in Silicon Valley feel like they need to go to Mar-a-Lago?”
“They're all taking a knee, just like Jeff Bezos took a knee for The Washington Post before the election,” Roginsky said. This is what we see when authoritarians emerge. This is exactly what we saw when it came to Russia in the 1990s and early 2000s, when oligarchs were on bended knee thinking they could control Vladimir Putin. Well, I have news for them. They will not be able to achieve it in any way, shape, or form in the same way that the Moscow oligarchy was unable to control Vladimir Putin. Holy crap, they can play, they probably will. They will continue to be very wealthy, but you should never believe that they will influence him in any way. It starts with Elon Musk and ends with Mark Zuckerberg. He will command them. This is how dictatorship begins. ”
