Trump’s ‘Great’ First Term Immigration Plan ‘Based on Merit, Mostly,’ He Gets We’re Nation of Immigrants

On Monday's broadcast of Newsmax TV's “Wake Up America,” incoming border czar Tom Homan said he would leave decisions on H-1B visa policy up to President-elect Donald Trump, but that Trump has “great things to do” on immigration. He said he has a plan. His first term was “largely based on merit,” and Trump is not anti-immigrant and understands that America is a nation of immigrants.

Mr Homan said: “Look, when it comes to the H-1B debate, I'm not going to get ahead of the president on this. He's going to do it — he's going to make that decision. I'm not going to get ahead of the president on this. I'm busy with the expulsion operation. I'll leave it to the president to decide what to do.”

Homan continued. “What I can say is that in his first administration, his immigration plan was mostly based on merit, right? There was still room for families, moms, dads, sons and daughters. There was still a family element, but we didn't see the second plan. We haven't discussed that, so I'll leave that decision to the president.”

Co-host Mark Lotter then said, “I think one of the biggest misconceptions that people have is that President Trump's policies are anti-immigrant. They're anti-illegal immigration. We know that we are a nation of immigrants.”

Homan replied: “Of course, as I said, he had a great immigration plan in his first administration, and he'll have one again in his second administration. But, as you say, I'm not anti-immigrant. , we are against illegal immigration because of the tragedies we have seen.”
