Texas Rep. Advocates for Nationwide Tax Cuts
Brandon Gill, a Republican representative from Texas, is pushing for President Donald Trump’s tax cuts to benefit all Americans, regardless of where they reside.
Responding to local efforts that aim to block the implementation of Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act in Washington, D.C., Gill has proposed a law aimed at ensuring that residents of the capital continue to receive important tax benefits.
Gill stated, “The government’s main focus should be on supporting families, not making profits off them.”
“Thanks to President Trump, Americans received significant tax relief via the Working Families Tax Cut, which has helped prevent what would have been the largest tax increase since World War II,” he shared with a news outlet.
He expressed concern that actions by the D.C. Council could hinder residents, particularly those in the service industry, from obtaining these federal tax credits, including the ability to earn tax-free tips and overtime pay. “I will collaborate with Senator Rick Scott from Florida to prevent the D.C. Council from obstructing these America First tax cuts,” he assured.
As noted, Gill’s initiative in the House is matched by a companion bill in the Senate, introduced by Florida’s Senator Rick Scott. Scott criticized D.C. for what he termed a “deliberate” effort to deny residents these tax advantages.
“Last year, the Republican Party and President Trump delivered historic tax cuts aimed at aiding hardworking American families and businesses, allowing them to retain more of their own earnings—including tax-free tips and overtime,” Scott emphasized.
“When I was governor of Florida, I focused on cutting taxes frequently to foster economic recovery and support businesses. It’s unreasonable for bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. to prevent families and enterprises from keeping what they have earned. The priority should always be on serving families,” he added.
Gill’s bill is expected to be voted on in the House on Wednesday, with indications that it will garner bipartisan support.
