Trump's 'Independence Arch' Is Set to Be a Memorable Landmark

White House Supports Trump’s Proposal for Grand Arch in D.C.

The White House is backing President Donald Trump’s idea to construct a massive arch in Washington, D.C., potentially surpassing the height of the Lincoln Memorial.

This proposed arch resembles the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, and the White House has indicated it could become a significant part of the president’s legacy, especially with America’s upcoming 250th anniversary.

White House Press Secretary Davis Engle expressed confidence, stating, “The Arch will become one of the most iconic landmarks in Washington, D.C., and around the world.” Engle added that Trump’s vision will be a lasting part of America’s identity and success.

In a social media post from January 23, the White House unveiled an image of the proposed “Arch of Independence.”

When discussing the arch’s size, President Trump mentioned he isn’t certain of the exact height but described it as “just right for this location.” He emphasized that it should be substantial: “We want it to be the biggest of all. We’re the biggest and most powerful country.”

Reportedly, Trump has considered a height of 250 feet, which would make it loom over the 100-foot Lincoln Memorial while celebrating the nation’s anniversary.

According to previous reports, the memorial will be funded privately using leftover donations intended for the White House Ballroom Project. In October, Trump announced three different arch models at the White House.

The arch is planned to provide a view of the Potomac River, stretching from the Lincoln Memorial to the Arlington Memorial Bridge.

While some have criticized the ballroom project, which relies on private donations, such backlash isn’t new. Concerns regarding Trump’s architectural ambitions are as perennial as the cherry blossoms in the area.

One critique mentioned that it’s not unprecedented or undemocratic; many past presidents have made substantial alterations to the landscape of Washington. The current projects, including the ballroom, aim to enhance the locality without using taxpayer funds.

Despite the critiques, Trump has proceeded with plans for the ballroom, purchasing marble and onyx materials in early January with intentions to finance it himself.
