Federal prosecutors are now turning their attention to one of the more troubled members of Congress.
The Justice Department is looking into Republican Rep. Cory Mills from Florida, with a significant aspect of the investigation reportedly centering on his personal finances. ABC News has indicated, based on multiple sources, that this is indeed a criminal investigation. MS NOW also highlighted that sources have mentioned the FBI questioned at least one individual last year regarding Mills’ financial activities and potential misconduct involving people close to him.
Mills expressed surprise upon hearing about the inquiry. When approached for comment, he stated, “This is the first time I’ve heard about this matter.” He speculated that it might be linked to an ongoing ethics investigation in the House, which, according to his campaign, has already been cleared up. “The FEC has rejected everything about the campaign,” Mills mentioned, referencing the Federal Election Commission’s closure of its review.
The Washington Examiner has likewise confirmed the existence of the Justice Department’s investigation through its sources but noted that the specific objectives of the investigation were still not clear.

The House Ethics Committee has been scrutinizing Mills since August 2024, even forming an investigative subcommittee in November 2025. This investigation reportedly includes an incident from February 2025, where Mills faced allegations of domestic violence—claims he firmly denies.
Additionally, Mills has been the target of a notable expulsion request from fellow Republican Rep. Nancy Mace, who criticized that “the swamp has protected Corey Mills for too long.” The Daily Caller has noted that Mills previously managed to fend off a censure resolution after a majority of House Republicans opted to refer it to committee in November 2025.
In the meantime, former Democratic Congressman Alan Grayson has entered the race for FL-7, hoping to capitalize on the ethics investigation and potentially displace Mills. He’s banking on the idea that Mills’ seat might be more vulnerable now. Mills is gearing up for a competitive Republican primary set for August 18, having reported just $81,000 in cash as of the end of the second quarter.
