Trump's Major, Impressive Bill Passes Last House Challenge on Its Way to the White House

Trump’s Major Legislative Achievement Passes House

President Donald Trump’s significant new legislation has made its way to the White House, representing months of effort by the president and his team. This bill, described by Trump as “big and beautiful,” passed the House recently with a narrow vote of 218-214.

Republicans have successfully met Trump’s goal for Independence Day, a target many in the media deemed unrealistic. On Thursday morning, Trump celebrated the law on social media, calling it “one of the most consequential bills ever.”

The legislation consolidates numerous actions taken by Trump into legal terms and opens up various avenues that don’t necessarily need Congressional approval—potentially marking a pivotal point in his presidency.

Reportedly, the new laws embody victories that past presidents like Barack Obama and George W. Bush could only dream of. Trump’s agenda, promising extensive reforms during his campaign, has seemed more reachable following this new legislation.

Although Democrats have voiced concerns about Medicaid reforms, the bill goes beyond extending the Trump-era tax cuts established in 2017. It also enhances border security measures, incorporating features like overtime and tax-free social security.

In many respects, this substantial legislation seems to fulfill Trump’s 2016 victory promises, as it challenges traditional GOP positions on border policies.

The journey to this vote was marked by significant procedural challenges and delays, but eventually, the House approved the rules that enabled voting at around 3 AM ET on the final legislative package. With only one Republican, Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick from Pennsylvania, voting against it, the voting session lasted nearly six hours—making it one of the longest in congressional history.

After passing the rules, there was a heated debate, which continued while much of America was still asleep. The tactics used during the voting process included lengthy speeches intended to delay proceedings, with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries taking the floor early that morning. His speeches, however, seemed to lose the attention of many present, including members of his own party.

Despite these interruptions, credit is due to Trump and his administration for driving the bill forward. The turning point came after Trump conversed with various Republican groups, clarifying the Senate’s amendments and their implications. Some previously skeptical Republicans indicated that the revised bill aligned more closely with their preferences than earlier thought.

In summary, Trump’s unyielding effort to advance the bill has contributed significantly to his legacy and could reshape the future of his administration.
