Trump’s plane was en route to Bozeman, Montana, for a rally on Friday night, but then landed in Billings, Montana, several hours away from his final destination.
The former president is expected to arrive in Bozeman in time for the rally.
“I just landed in Montana, a really beautiful place. So beautiful, flying up in the sky, looking down, just the way it should be,” Trump said in a video posted to social media.
According to reports, Secret Service agents conducted a “thorough search of the airport” before Trump boarded a private jet to travel to the rally.
“His aircraft experienced mechanical difficulties and was redirected to land at Billings Logan Airport,” an airport spokesman said.
Trump’s Bozeman rally will be his first outdoor rally since the assassination attempt that nearly killed the former president.
