Federal Authorities Remove Criminal Illegal Aliens from California Prisons

Federal agents have successfully deported hundreds of criminal illegal immigrants from California, despite the state’s sanctuary laws. This was confirmed by U.S. Attorney Bill Esseri, who noted the operation has been effective in the state known for its amnesty policies.

Esseri initiated this campaign last year, stating that the strategy could serve as a template for other regions across the country. He expressed, “This program demonstrates a viable method for encouraging states to hand over criminal illegal immigrants to ICE.”

As a result of this operation, 362 individuals, who had previously been deported, were arrested. These figures were reported by a major news outlet.

The federal authorities are employing illegal reentry charges to secure warrants for individuals already detained in local jails. The warrants compel these facilities to transfer inmates to federal custody prior to their release.

Esseri explained, “We draft federal warrants on-the-spot to ensure that criminal aliens are held in custody before they can be released.” He added that this approach aims to keep dangerous individuals off the streets.

This operation spans several counties, including Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino, among others. Recently, during an enforcement action at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles, federal agents arrested seven illegal immigrants implicated in various crimes, such as domestic assault and illegal firearm possession. All of these individuals had previously been convicted and deported for illegally entering the United States and may face federal charges for their return.

Operation Guardian Angel specifically targets undocumented immigrants with criminal backgrounds, including serious offenses like child sexual abuse and murder. For example, Jaime Rodríguez Ladesma, a 70-year-old Mexican national, was convicted in 2023 for lewd acts against a minor and was deported, only to re-enter the country unlawfully. Additionally, 31-year-old Jose Cristian Saravia Sanchez is accused of fatally shooting an individual during a robbery, having been deported previously and arrested multiple times within a two-year span.

Federal officials claim California’s sanctuary policies hinder local authorities from acting on immigrant detainees with prior criminal records. Esseri noted, “Operation Guardian Angel aims to counter the impact of these sanctuary state regulations.”

Some individuals on social media praised the initiative and expressed gratitude to the administration for its focus on criminal illegal immigrants in California.
