Trump’s Revenge Rhetoric Could Lead to ‘Civil War’

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) said on MSNBC’s “The Saturday Show” this week that she worries former President Donald Trump’s rhetoric about “revenge” is so divisive it could spark a civil war.

“Senator Waters, your name has been mentioned a number of times. Any final words please? What are your thoughts?” host Jonathan Capehart asked.

“When I tweeted about what Trump said about the Constitution, I basically tweeted that he ignores the Constitution and has no respect for the Constitution, and that tweet got over a million hits,” Waters said. “I think the American people are seeing through his thinking and will be careful how they respond to the election.”

She continued, “Let me just say this: I am concerned that he is being so divisive and talking about retaliation and revenge. I think that is dangerous. He is talking about civil war and saying there will be bloodshed. I would ask our criminal justice system and our judicial system for their time to ask what is happening with domestic terrorists? Are they setting up a civil war against us? Should we be concerned? What is he doing with this divisive language? It’s dangerous.”

Waters added, “Not only is he a criminal, he’s a man who has no respect for our Constitution and our democracy, and we need to find out what they’re doing when domestic terrorists tried to take over our government on January 6th. How far is this going to go? Are they going to attack?”
