Despite President Trump’s and the White House’s desire for people to move on from the scandal surrounding Jeffrey Epstein, new polling indicates that the issue is still alive in public discourse.
A recent Rasmussen poll shows a notable drop in Trump’s approval ratings—now at negative four—amid the Epstein controversy, down from a plus four in just three weeks.
The poll, conducted from July 8-10, reveals that only 21% of respondents believe the FBI and DOJ are being truthful regarding Epstein, who died in prison in 2019.
Although FBI heads like Kash Patel and Dan Bongino assert Epstein died by suicide, only 31% of voters seem to accept this explanation.
Mark Mitchell, the head pollster at Rasmussen, suggests this sentiment is widespread.
“A large majority,” he notes, “around 68% of Democrats, 66% of Republicans, and 69% of independents feel that the Epstein case isn’t concluded, and many believe there are still powerful individuals who should be held accountable.”
Epstein remains a thorny issue for Trump’s administration, which positioned itself against the “weak” elements within a base that is often skeptical of social media narratives surrounding “Epstein’s Hoax,” as some might refer to it.
Mitchell hinted that Trump’s declining popularity parallels Joe Biden’s struggles following the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan.
“The public is demanding criminal accountability,” he stated, pointing out that no one has faced consequences for actions surrounding recent elections.
The fallout from Epstein’s case isn’t isolated to his tragic end; while he is deceased, the anger lingers regarding those tied to his illicit activities.
His associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, currently serves time in prison, but many feel accountability is lacking, reflecting a broader sense of discontent with the federal authorities’ handling of significant cases.
Despite promises from Trump’s supporters during rallies, many were let down when investigations into figures like Hillary Clinton were not pursued. Instead, there was a sense of reluctant acceptance of this perceived sacrifice for unity.
Over time, various controversies emerged, from allegations involving Russia to unfounded media narratives that seemed to target Trump and his backers. This series of events created an environment where the public was led to expect justice that never truly materialized.
Biden’s Echo
Fast forward six months, and accountability appears elusive. Kash Patel, for instance, has recently been spotted attending sporting events rather than focusing on the supposed reforms that many hoped for.
Trump supporters, who once rallied behind the notion of “locking up” various politicians, now find themselves frustrated with inactivity.
It seems as though things have worsened, with key figures in the FBI seemingly unscathed and moving up the ranks rather than facing repercussions.
Despite promises of accountability, particularly concerning actions from the FBI against different groups, the reality has been disappointing for many who hoped for a more democratic oversight.
The lack of clarity surrounding Epstein’s case adds to the frustration, with some calling for transparency that does not seem forthcoming from the FBI or the DOJ.
Calls for the release of timelines and comprehensive details about Epstein’s case have been made by experts, who argue that the public deserves answers—or at the very least, confirmation of what happened.
If any deceptive practices were involved in previous investigations, those responsible must face scrutiny as well.
Questions remain about the whereabouts of accountability not only regarding Epstein but also for the broader concerns surrounding misinformation during recent events.
It appears that a sense of mistrust hang heavily over the current climate, with many wishing for clarity that has yet to manifest.
