The victory of US President-elect Donald Trump has sparked a variety of reactions across the Middle East. According to reports CBN Newsthe reaction was either to be met with complaints or to celebrate.
Saudi journalist Ghassan Ibrahim said, “Trump's victory is a victory for Israel in the war on terrorism. Trump has shown strong support for Israel and will continue to do so.'' .That could give Israel more freedom in the fight against Hezbollah's terrorism.”
Meanwhile, Hezbollah leader Sheikh Naim Qasem, who was hiding in Tehran, remained defiant.
“We do not expect an end to the invasion to be based on a political movement, and we are not going to beg for an end to the invasion. We are going to make our enemies demand an end to the invasion,” Qasem declared.
After the election, Iran's currency, known as the rial, hit an all-time low, leaving many Iranians pessimistic about the future.
Amir Agaian, 22, a student, said, “100 percent, he (President Trump) will tighten the sanctions. The disadvantageous situation for us will get even worse. Our economic and social situation will definitely worsen.'' I guess so,” he said.
In Israel, many Israelis believe that Trump's presidency means even more decisive support from the United States.
“This is a victory for all Americans, all Israelis, and a victory to wipe out anti-Semitic language around the world,” said Esther Hadas, from Tel Aviv.
“Basically, government is viewed as a business,” said Martin Schwartz, an American-Israeli. “And he's going to be someone who can handle business, so to speak, as opposed to someone like Kamala Harris.”
Some Gaza residents hope that Trump's election as president will end their suffering.
“I hope to God that he is a man of peace and finds us a solution. Enough blood. We see what the streets are like. Martyrs, wounded , or there is no home without disaster.” Raghda Alharazin evacuated from Gaza City.
Following the dismissal of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Wednesday bid farewell to Israeli Defense Force units and praised their unprecedented military achievements.
“We have changed the balance of power in the Middle East. From Gaza to Tehran, from Hodeidah (Yemen) to Dahia (south of Beirut). In all these places, things are happening that have never happened before, and enemies '' going back decades,'' Gallant said.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Netanyahu met with President-elect Trump to discuss Israel's security and the threat Iran poses to both countries.
