More than 3 million travelers were screened by the TSA on Sunday.
“Yesterday, Transportation Security Administration officers screened more than 3 million travelers in a single day at airports across the nation for the first time since our establishment in November 2001. This is an astonishing achievement. TSA thoroughly, accurately and efficiently screened 35 passengers every second and all of their checked and carry-on luggage while demonstrating unwavering professionalism and respect for the traveling public over an extremely busy holiday weekend,” said Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas.
Meanwhile, Mayorkas used the statistics on the record to lobby Congress to make “pay equity” permanent.
“This is the smart thing to do for all those who rely on TSA to keep our skies and our country safe, and it’s the right thing to do for these great public servants,” Mayorkas said.
The new record came just weeks after the TSA set a new record on June 23, when it hit just under 3 million passengers.rd.
Last month, officials reported that San Antonio International Airport was experiencing a “record-breaking summer” thanks to an increase in direct flights.
Ahead of the Fourth of July weekend, the TSA had scheduled to screen 32 million people between June 27 and June 28.Number July 8Number.
