TSA gets ready for July 4th crowds with record travel numbers already reached

Record-Breaking Travel Volume Expected for Independence Day

As summer travel ramps up with July 4th approaching, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has reported a historic surge in air travel. Last Sunday, nearly 3.1 million passengers were screened, marking the busiest day in the agency’s history.

Additionally, on June 22nd, the TSA set a record for the most travelers screened in a single day at Chicago O’Hare International Airport, with around 114,000 individuals passing through security.

“On our busiest days, our officers stay laser-focused on ensuring that all travelers have a safe and efficient screening experience,” said Jim Spriggs, a TSA security officer in Illinois. He emphasized the importance of arriving at checkpoints with valid identification and concluded, “We appreciate travelers being prepared and making sure there are no prohibited items in their carry-ons.”

In light of this announcement, the TSA anticipates that over 18.5 million Americans will take to the skies this Independence Day, with the highest travel volume expected on Sunday, where projections reach around 2.9 million flyers.

The agency has advised that, considering the expected surge in travel during the holiday season, passengers should arrive at airports early enough to handle parking, check-in, and security procedures.

Meanwhile, the AAA’s Independence Day Travel Forecast indicates that approximately 72.2 million people will travel at least 50 miles from home during this period, with around 5.8 million of them planning to fly.
