Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) said he believes Trump's tariffs on other countries are the “only filming” of “recovering our country.”
Tuberville joined John Catsimatidis for his radio show “Cats Roundtable,” where he placed emphasis on the administration's international efforts.
“I know people are complaining about these tariffs now, but women and gentlemen, I'll let you know something, this is the only shot we've got to get back our country,” he said.
Trump's tariff plans came into effect earlier this month.
He introduced 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico and an additional 10% tariffs on China. The decision was met with uncertainty and concern as Americans feared that prices for everyday items would skyrocket.
Trump then exempts car parts from tariffs after the car manufacturers raised concerns about the trade war.
The president also imposed a wide range of steel and aluminum tariffs. He threatened to double the tariff on Canadian imports, but pulled back after the Ontario government retreated with its own additional fees for electricity exports to three US provinces.
The president contested that there was a contradiction in his policy despite changes and revisions to his original plans. He called it flexibility and emphasized his ability to adjust.
Tuberville argued that tariffs will help the American economy and bring manufacturing jobs back to the US
He criticized those on welfare, tried to share a call to act using food stamps and to save the country. Without tariffs, he believes the country cannot recognize it.
“There's nothing else to do in this country… it's going to be the United States, but it's going to be completely different from what you and I grew up in,” Tuberville said. “So, cross your fingers with President Trump. He's working so hard.”
