Tunnel to Towers Tour Honors Fallen Heroes in Boston
The Tunnel to Towers Steel Across America tour paid tribute to fallen heroes in Boston on Wednesday. This event is part of a nationwide tour that aims to conclude in New York City soon after September 11th.
A 21-foot steel beam from the South Tower of the World Trade Center, which has been touring since May, was displayed at the Massachusetts Fallen Heroes Memorial located in Boston’s Seaport.
Dan Magoon, the executive director of Massachusetts Fallen Heroes, expressed the tour’s significance for first responders and veterans. “As we approach the 25th anniversary, it’s personal for us. We want to educate the next generation and ensure the sacrifices made—both on 9/11 and in the two decades following—aren’t forgotten,” he shared.
9/11 History Resurfaces as the 25th Anniversary Approaches
Mike Eruzione, captain of the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team known for the “Miracle on Ice,” paid tribute to friends who were passengers on hijacked planes on September 11, 2001. “It touched the heart of our country. It touched the souls of our country,” he reflected, highlighting the work of Tunnel to Towers, which assists 9/11 families, first responders, and veterans through funds raised from charity runs.

The gathering in Boston brought together first responders and law enforcement. Attendees had the opportunity to approach the massive 16,900-pound beam and pay their respects.
Daniel McCarthy, a Boston local whose parents are originally from New York, remarked, “It’s just crazy to think about where it once stood, the people that worked inside the buildings, the people that rushed inside to save those individuals, and then everything that happened when it all fell.” There’s a certain weight to these reflections, you know?
Upcoming Stops for Tunnel to Towers Tour Before 9/11
After its stop in Boston, the beam traveled to Fenway Park on Wednesday night, following a visit to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point earlier in the week.
The tour is set to make a stop at the White House in Washington, D.C., on September 8.
