Turley Says Judge May Jail Hunter Biden For ‘Putting Everyone Through A Trial’ With ‘Overwhelming Evidence Of Guilt’

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley said Monday that a federal judge could impose a prison sentence on Hunter Biden if he is convicted on firearms charges.

Closing arguments in the lawsuit over Biden’s purchase of a .38-caliber revolver concluded on Monday and the jury has begun deliberations, CNN reported. reportTurley said Biden may not be able to avoid prison because he took the case to court. “I think it’s unlikely he’ll go to prison, but this is a clear case and this defendant has forced the court to try this,” Turley told Fox News host John Roberts. “And if he is convicted, some judges are actually not going to be happy about that. If you put everybody on trial in what appears to be a strict liability case and you check a box and it turns out to be false, some judges are going to feel like they need to spend a little bit of time in prison, even if it’s only for a short time.”

“So I wouldn’t discount the possibility given what he’s been through and the hardships he’s put the court through by challenging the overwhelming evidence of his guilt,” Turley continued.

Biden was indicted in September on three felony counts of making false statements and illegal possession of a firearm while under the influence of drugs. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in October.

Turley began his segment by saying the defense was clearly pursuing a “jury nullification” strategy, noting that “a significant number of Biden supporters” were in attendance at the trial, including First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, who has been there since the trial began on June 3.

“Looking at the defense, I think this is the clearest case for a jury acquittal,” he said. [defense attorney Abbe] “Lowell’s opening arguments fell apart within 48 hours,” Turley said. “The prosecution blew those arguments to shreds, and every one of those arguments was implausible. That’s not the point.”

“These are kind of placeholders, in the hope that the jury will override the evidence,” Turley continued. “They’re not trying to get the jury to doubt the evidence, they’re asking them to ignore the evidence.”
