‘Twisters’ Director Says Film Avoids Mentioning Climate Change Because Movies Should Not ‘Preach a Message’

THR is probably Twister Although Lee Isaac Chung believes that at least a word about “global warming” should have been included to raise awareness of the issue, this was not the case.

“I didn’t want the film to feel like it was trying to send a message.” Chung told CNN.“I feel like the film isn’t message-driven.”

Chung said the film isn’t shy about mentioning “changing” weather patterns. For example, there’s a scene in the film where actress Maura Tierney, who plays a local farmer, casually mentions that storms and floods are common in the area, without ever mentioning CC’s catchphrase.

“I think what we’re doing is showing the reality of what’s happening on the ground. We’re not shy about saying things are changing,” Chung said. “I wanted to make sure that it didn’t come across as if we were preaching a message, because I don’t think that’s what film should be. I think film should be a reflection of the world.”
