Two Teenage Girls Accused of School Shooting Plot

Two 15-year-old girls are facing accusations of planning a school shooting in Southern California, and investigators say they even created a hit list.

The investigation kicked off on October 6 when the FBI alerted the Corona Police Department alongside the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office about social media threats aimed at Corona High School, as reported by KABC-TV.

“It’s not typical for young female suspects to be involved in these kinds of crimes; generally, they act alone,” stated a police officer. It’s an unusual scenario, to say the least.

One of the girls, a student at Corona High School, was apprehended by detectives. Subsequently, investigators identified a second girl from Norco High School and detains her after conducting searches at several locations across Riverside County, examining electronic devices and messages in the process.

KABC indicated that the search revealed that these teenagers had spent months researching previous school shootings, discussing potential strategies to execute their planned attack on Corona High School.

Authorities mentioned that the girls also talked about ways to acquire weapons needed for carrying out the attack. Nevertheless, KABC noted that no firearms were found during the searches, and both teens remain in custody, charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

As reported by KCBS-TV, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office has stated that they cannot confirm the charges or the identities of the suspects due to their ages.

Interestingly, Corona Police Lt. Robert Montanez pointed out that it’s uncommon for females to be involved in such plots. He added that the young suspects had created a detailed map of the school layout and had plans that hinted at circumventing law enforcement and obtaining firearms, along with specific details on how they intended to carry out their intentions.

According to KCBS, the teens reportedly compiled a list of targets that included both fellow students and teachers, possibly indicating some form of revenge.

Research referenced by NPR highlights that only about 3% of school shootings feature female offenders, emphasizing how rare this situation truly is.

Authorities encourage anyone with information regarding this case to reach out to Corona Police Detective Edwards at 951-279-3656 or via email.
