Two Teens Arrested for Alleged Threats Against Florida High School
Last week, two 15-year-old boys were taken into custody after reportedly making threats to carry out a shooting at a high school in Florida.
According to the sheriff’s office, one of the suspects is from Volusia County and was apprehended following a tip received on Thursday. The other teen, hailing from Okaloosa County, was arrested earlier on a Monday.
“I appreciate those who reported this threat. Their action might have prevented a serious situation,” the sheriff noted.
Due to their ages, the names and images of the suspects have not been released. The teen from Okaloosa County, a resident of Fort Walton Beach, faces charges related to making electronic threats to commit a mass shooting and using a two-way communication device to execute a felony, as reported by local media.
The threats aimed at Choctawhatchee High School prompted an investigation, with reports indicating that the suspect had made progressively detailed threats from December 2025 to January 2026.
Investigators were alerted on January 16. A forensic examination of his phone uncovered a document labeled “List 2026,” which contained names of students associated with Choctawhatchee High School. Fortunately, no weapon was recovered.
As per reports, the suspect acknowledged to the police that he made the threat but claimed it was all “just a joke.”
In a statement reflecting on the incident, Sheriff Eric Aden remarked:
“We commend those who reported the threats. Their proactive actions may have kept everyone safe. It’s vital for parents to discuss the seriousness of violent language and the need to report any such behavior promptly to school officials or law enforcement. We take pride in our collaboration with the Okaloosa County School District and those who did the right thing by coming forward.”
As reported, the Okaloosa County teen was eventually transferred to a Department of Juvenile Justice facility near Crestview.
In another case, the 15-year-old from Volusia County was apprehended following information about a shooting post made by a student at Atlantic High School. Officials stated he is currently in custody on a felony charge, emphasizing that while not every issue can be resolved, an immediate response is necessary to safeguard the vast majority of students who simply want to feel secure in their environment.
