Two bodies found in landing gear of JetBlue flight at Fort Lauderdale airport

Florida police have launched an investigation after two bodies were discovered late Monday in the landing gear area of a JetBlue plane at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

“On Monday, January 6th, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Broward Sheriff's Office Airport District Officers discovered two individuals in the landing gear area of a JetBlue aircraft at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. “We responded to a call regarding the incident,” Carrie Codd, a public information officer with the Broward Sheriff's Office, said in a statement obtained by NewsNation.

“Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue also responded. Paramedics pronounced both individuals deceased at the scene,” Codd added.

The Broward County Coroner's Office is currently conducting autopsies to determine the cause of death for both men.

The victim's name has not been released.

The incident comes days after a body was found in the wheel well of a United Airlines plane bound for Maui, Hawaii, last month.

Airlines are being encouraged to streamline pre-takeoff procedures to prevent unticketed passengers from hiding on board.

JetBlue has come under intense scrutiny in recent months for chronic flight delays and has suspended flights to several cities following the collapse of its merger with Spirit Airlines.
