Detroit city officials are pondering what policies will change to avoid another horrifying thing tragedy After two children were found dead in the casino parking lot.
The two- and nine-year-olds were found dead on Monday by their mother, Tateona Williams. The vehicle was out of gas on the day the temperature dropped to a fatal level.
“We need to make sure this never happens again, as much as possible.”
Williams said she did everything she could to protect her child. They lived in the van for several months.
“Everyone who knows me knows I adore the ground that those kids walked,” she said.
She said she tried to wake up the 9 year old for school but found out he wasn't breathing.
“My son wasn't moving. I said, 'Get up and wake up. Don't do this to me.' ” I said WXYZ-TV.
She said she gave him CPR before rushing to the hospital. They then realized that her two-year-old daughter had also stopped breathing.
“They brought her right after he was declared dead,” Williams said. “And they said she wasn't breathing. And they also declared her death. I asked everyone for help. I called out of state. In a city I didn't know. I called.”
The prosecutor will determine the official cause of death.
Police said there are several blankets in the car to help the kids stay warm. Three other children lived in the van. Authorities are investigating the case and can press their mother for criminal charges.
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan commented on the tragedy.
“We need to make sure this doesn't happen again, and do everything possible,” Duggan said. “I'm not going to talk about individual employees. I'm talking about the whole system. Are you doing everything to ensure that people in the city know how to access this critical care? ?”

“So before you judge, pray for her and her strength,” she wrote. “Then, she'd have no one else to do, so look in the mirror. She loved, protected, and did everything she could to keep her baby safe… she By yourself!”
