Shooting Outside Church in Salt Lake City
On Wednesday evening, a tragic shooting in Salt Lake City left two individuals dead and six more injured. This incident took place outside the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where a memorial service was being held.
The church acknowledged in a statement that a “serious incident” happened outside their building located at 660 North Redwood Road, during the funeral proceedings in the chapel. Salt Lake Police reported that three of the injured persons are in serious condition. Some victims sought medical help via private vehicles before emergency services arrived.
The church expressed its gratitude for the first responders’ efforts and mentioned that they are cooperating with law enforcement. They also voiced their sorrow regarding the violence occurring in a place of worship, extending prayers to all those affected. It has been noted that any inquiries about the incident should be directed to the Salt Lake City Police Department.
The FBI’s Salt Lake City division is aware of the event and is assisting local law enforcement. Additionally, special agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are also on the scene to support the investigation related to the shooting at the 600 block of North Redwood Avenue.
At this time, police do not have a description of the suspect’s vehicle but are actively searching the area from Redwood Road down to the Jordan River. Residents are advised to avoid the vicinity as the investigation is ongoing.
