Tragic School Bus Accident in West Tennessee

Authorities have reported the deaths of two students and the injuries of at least seven others following a school bus accident in west Tennessee on Friday.

The collision, which involved a dump truck from the Tennessee Department of Transportation, a Chevrolet Trailblazer, and the school bus, took place around noon on Highway 70 in Carroll County. Major Travis Plotzer from the Tennessee Highway Patrol shared that the specifics of the accident are still being determined but indicated that the dump truck was not directly responsible for the crash.

At the time of the accident, the school bus was transporting 25 students and five adults from Kenwood Middle School in Clarksville, who were on a field trip to Jackson, Tennessee, as noted by a statement from the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System.

The cause of the collision is under investigation, and Plotzer confirmed at a press briefing that two students tragically lost their lives. At least seven others were transported to hospitals in Tennessee. While the precise injuries weren’t disclosed at the moment, Plotzer described the situation as a “parent’s worst nightmare.”

The principal of the school, Karen Miller, announced that counselors would be available starting Monday. In a heartfelt message posted on Facebook, she expressed the calamity of the incident and encouraged parents to be attentive to their children’s emotional needs as they process the loss of their classmates. “Let’s keep supporting each other during this challenging time,” she urged.

In terms of medical responses, four individuals were admitted to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, where they are currently reported to be in stable condition. Meanwhile, another 19 victims were taken to Carroll County Baptist Memorial Hospital; all were treated and later released, though it’s unclear how many sustained injuries.
