Two key states to see massive GOP voter registration operation

Exclusive: A big-spending effort is underway aimed at giving conservative candidates a strategic advantage in key battleground states.

Starting Monday, the right-leaning nonprofit Heritage Action for America plans to announce a new multimillion-dollar effort to “give conservative candidates an electoral advantage” in Georgia and Arizona, where other organizational resources have already been poured, Heritage Action officials said.

Heritage Action vice president Ryan Walker said the effort is different from a typical political campaign and the group is not looking to endorse any particular candidate on the ballot.

Walker said the effort involves using voter files and consumer data to identify demographics and then analyzing them to determine whether they would support conservative candidates.

“We can go to their homes, survey them, knock on their doors and deliver content about the issues that matter most to voters during this election cycle,” Walker said.

“Then you can go back to voters with that message and that content and convince them that exercising your right to vote is important in this election. So this is a more powerful campaign than just sending flyers to every household.”

Walker reiterated that while the effort is heavily funded, it is limited in scope and primarily problem-based.

Kevin Roberts, president of Heritage Action, noted that President Biden won the White House in 2020 by narrow margins in Georgia, Arizona and other battleground states.

“Voters want to remove President Trump from office for good because he has opened borders, destroyed the economy with overspending and inflation, and sowed conflict around the world with his failed foreign policy,” Roberts said.

“Heritage Action’s strategic voter registration campaign is about finding and equipping the voters needed to build conservative majorities in must-win states across the country.”

Pennsylvania is again seen as a battleground state, while reliably Democratic states such as Wisconsin and New York are seen as potential gains for conservatives.

In Wisconsin, Mr. Biden is slightly behind former President Trump, while Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin is leading Republican challenger Eric Hovde in the polls. In New York, state Republican Chairman Ed Cox compared Mr. Biden to former President Carter and said the state was ripe for a rare Republican flip.

Walker was asked why Heritage Action chose Arizona and Georgia.

Walker echoed Roberts, saying the project’s goal is to register about 80,000 people in each state, which he believes would give conservatives an advantage in November’s election.

He noted that the top-level election in Georgia was decided by about 12,000 votes.

“Our view is that we can turn the tide by getting a large number of people registered who support the policy solutions that we advocate for. So right now our focus is just on Arizona and Georgia,” he said.
