Two more illegal immigrants were arrested the same day by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Martha's Vineyard on suspicion of crimes, and more recent immigrants were arrested on wealthy islands off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

On September 17, ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston team tracked down a 36-year-old Brazilian fugitive to Oak Bluffs who was wanted by authorities in his home country. The man, who was not named in his Sept. 30 release, was spared a 10-year prison sentence for drug trafficking, officials said.

“This fugitive was convicted of international drug crimes in Brazil, but instead of repaying his debts to society, he chose to flee and hide on Martha's Vineyard,” said Patricia H., Acting Director of ERO's Boston Field Office.・Hyde said.

The Salvadoran was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol after crossing the U.S. border near Harlingen, Texas, on November 27, 1994. On June 21, 1995, an immigration judge ordered his deportation to El Salvador.

Several years later, on July 6, 2003, the same man was convicted of disorderly conduct in Portland, Maine Superior Court and sentenced to fines and court costs.

ERO Boston officials arrested the man in 2009, but released him on an order of supervision through the Alternative to Detention Program, the agency said.

The program, which began in 2004, is [monitoring] “Techniques and case management to ensure noncitizens comply with release conditions, court hearings, and final removal orders,” the agency said.

However, he violated the terms of the program and was arrested again by authorities on May 18, 2010, and deported for the second time on June 20, 2011.

The man remains in ERO custody. The nature of his crimes in his home country and the timing of his arrest there are unknown.

Felix Alberto Perez Gomez, 41, from Guatemala, was also arrested on the island on the same day on suspicion of committing a sex crime against a Nantucket resident.

On September 12, documented MS-13 gang member Ángel Gabriel delas-Mejia, a resident of Salvador, was arrested on Nantucket Island, according to the agency.
