Two Mexican nationals plead guilty to assaulting Border Patrol agent in Texas

Two Mexican nationals have pleaded guilty to assaulting a Border Patrol agent in Texas, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Thursday.

Jose María Reyes Fuentes, 23, and his brother Juventino Darinel Reyes Fuentes, 29, both Mexican nationals, were arrested by Border Patrol agents at the Santa Teresa Police Department, according to the New Mexico U.S. Attorney's Office. He said he tried to hit the staff member. He will be arrested on August 20, 2023.

Juventino Darinel and Jose María will be held until sentencing, which is not scheduled.

They could receive up to eight years in prison.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation Las Cruces Residential Bureau investigated the incident. The U.S. Border Patrol also assisted.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Ramirez is prosecuting the case.

Santa Teresa Patrol Station is located just west of El Paso, Texas, just across the U.S.-Mexico border from Ciudad Juarez.
