Two Officers Shot by Illegal Immigrant from Venezuela

Two New York City police officers were shot by an illegal immigrant from Venezuela who was driving a scooter on Monday morning, according to New York Police Department officials.

Fox News report The incident happened after an attempted traffic stop around 1:40 a.m. “at the intersection of 89th Street and 23rd Avenue.”

When police tried to stop him, the illegal driver jumped off his scooter and fled, firing at police who were pursuing him.

FOX 5 New York I got it. “Officers were operating in response to a number of robberies using mopeds and scooters in the area.”

NYPD Commissioner Edward Cabán said the suspect came to officers’ attention when he was driving the wrong way on “82nd Street near 23rd Avenue.”

The illegal immigrant fired at the police officers, who returned fire, wounding the illegal immigrant in the ankle.

Two officers were treated for gunshot wounds and released from the hospital — one officer was shot while wearing his bulletproof vest and the other was shot in the leg.

Pix 11 Identified It noted that the illegal immigrant is 19-year-old Bernardo Raul Castro Mata, who entered the U.S. in July 2023 through Eagle Pass, Texas.
