Clash Outside Delaney Hall Detention Center in New Jersey
Federal agents resorted to pepper spray outside the Delaney Hall Detention Center in New Jersey on Tuesday night to disperse anti-ICE protesters, who had been demonstrating for several days outside the facility.
Video footage from FreedomNewsTV depicted protesters attempting to block vehicles from leaving Newark’s Delaney Hall. Authorities intervened, trying to clear the road and stop the agitators from obstructing traffic.
As the situation escalated, confrontations became physical. Federal agents were seen pushing back protesters who approached vehicles trying to exit. Some agents deployed pepper spray, while others used batons against the demonstrators.
Increased Security Measures Amid Ongoing Protests
On the same night, Homeland Security Secretary Mark Wayne Mullin commented on the standoff via a post on X, stating that ICE officers were attacked by protesters who sprayed them with an unidentified chemical. He mentioned that two individuals were arrested for assault and resisting federal officers.
This clash came after a weekend filled with protests regarding conditions for detainees at the facility, including reports of hunger strikes among those held there. Mullin, however, refuted these claims, stating, “There is no hunger strike at Delaney Hall. There are no substandard conditions.”
Political Responses and Continued Tensions
New Jersey politicians, like Sen. Andy Kim and Gov. Mikie Sherrill, visited the center during the protests. Kim was permitted entry, but Sherrill was denied access. Democratic lawmakers, including Sen. Cory Booker, openly criticized ICE and the facility on social media.
Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security released a statement indicating that it would not allow the protests to disrupt ICE operations. The department accused “New Jersey’s sanctuary politicians and anti-ICE activists” of undermining law enforcement efforts to apprehend serious criminals while they demonstrated outside the detention center.
In a follow-up, DHS highlighted actions taken against criminal illegal aliens, emphasizing their commitment to law enforcement amidst the tensions.
