A 39-year-old man tragically lost his life on Thursday while attempting to save his dog from a flooded basement. In a separate incident during severe rainstorms affecting New York City, another individual suffered fatal electrocution while working on a boiler.
Firefighters discovered the man in the basement after he had previously managed to escape the home. Reports indicate he went back inside, possibly without fully considering the risk, to rescue his pet.
After being transported to Kings County Hospital, he was pronounced dead. There’s still uncertainty regarding whether the dog was rescued.
Meanwhile, authorities confirmed that the second victim was pulled from the basement, but unfortunately, he was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.
The names of both victims have not been released, as authorities are waiting to inform their families first. The city medical examiner is currently looking into the circumstances surrounding these incidents.
